One Morning Routine Tip That Can Propel You Into Productive Action

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

Struggling with these unprecedented times? Feeling trapped, stuck or depressed? With so much information out there, so many of us are in overloaded, which is causing inaction. So I want to share a tip from my daily morning routine, that has truly helped me continue to make progress in times of great struggle. Let's set yourself up for success, reduce friction, make progress, reward yourself and then you are more likely to SUCCEED! As you know what I share is always based on a blend of personal experience and scientific facts. Being the daughter of a Marine, I was always taught to make my bed but I always thought it was useless. It wasn't until later in life, that I learned the principle of Habit Stacking a how importance it is to just get into action and get the ball rolling. That was a pivotal moment for me, I began to voluntarily make my bed every morning and things started changing. Many people ask how do we help so many people achieve success!?!? The funny thing about my answer is, it is mostly about empowering people not to give up on themselves. Best way I have found to do this is - BABY STEPS! I found I need to identify the small wins that indicate that I am accomplishing something. These accomplishments will motivate me to keep moving in the right direction. If I focused only on the big wins (Big goal, impossible task, etc), I would feel like I will never get anything accomplished and quit. Celebrating the small things you are accomplishing creates momentum of winning, feeling like you are making progress it will make you more likely to keep going. It should help you to get started thinking in the right direction. Before you know it, accomplishing things becomes your lifestyle and you are motivated to keep going and not focused on the finish line being crossed but more so appreciating the present. Then you are no longer thinking quitting is even an option. Design your environment to succeed (cues to get started immediately after you wake up)! Let's make the actions as small as possible (Make your bed)! You are making progress (this is your first win of the day). Celebrate that win. Take the next step. Become more mindful of the good things in your life. The more you appreciate them, the more joy they will bring to you and the more you will be trigger to succeed. A part of living the good life is stopping long enough to relish in the moment. Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things. Divide that big goal into small doable steps, so you can get into action and create momentum to propel you toward that goal. Making progress is critical to succeeding. Get into the momentum of one win, then next win, and so on. Get up, make your bed, you have already had a win for the day, you go this!!!

Recently I have talked a lot about the importance of making a "Decision!" The moment you “decide” to change yourself is usually immediately followed by the need to break inertia, so you just have to get into action. Take the next step! It doesn't matter if you don't know how to be successful. The "How" will come. Simply having the willingness to let go, is a great first step in the right direction and begins to create the space needed to figure out what's next. So take that step, the rest will follow!!! Remember, the enemy is not the work. It’s not the difficulty of the work. The enemy is Resistance (This is what holds us back). By the time we’re ready, it’s too late. The moment has passed. Resistance has seen us coming and has marshaled all its forces to lay us low. So get the jump on that resistance, break inertia and take a single step…today! Don't wait till you've got your ducks in a row. Dive in now. Good things happen when we start before we’re ready. Not only do we open ourselves to the blessings of happy serendipity, but we steal a march on the forces of procrastination, perfectionism, over-preparation, fear and self-doubt. So "movement" is the real key to a successful life:

  • ✅Break inertia.

  • ✅Take action.

  • ✅Gain momentum.

Take the next step! What's holding you back from taking your next step?

These times will test many of us to our inner core, but by giving our very best even on the darkest day, is what will set you apart, give you hope, keep you calm, and change your life for the better. So never give up, where there is a will there is a way. Life isn't always going to be fair or easy but that doesn't have to paralyze you. Your circumstances don't define your destiny... they merely determine where you start. So refuse to allow the things you can't control the things you can control. Get into action, take the next step and watch the momentum build!
